I'm Allison, the owner and photographer behind Allison Shamrell Pet Photography, a boutique photography studio in San Diego, California. I've have been working exclusively with pets and their families for almost four years now, and I work in my studio as well as on-location around San Diego.

Why photography?
I absolutely love being a photographer. I got my start in sports action photography, but once my husband & I adopted a shelter dog, it was a natural transition to focus on pets. Dogs inspire me. They have incredibly diverse personalities and no two sessions are the same. My clients often say they can't take decent photos of their dogs themselves, but many of the pets I've worked with are truly their owners' best friends - so being able to give them a portrait that captures their relationship is truly an honor.

Why do you use AsukaBook?
I use AsukaBook because it's simply the best! I don't offer anything to my clients that I wouldn't want in my own home, and I believe that AsukaBooks are the best-made albums in the industry.

The NeoClassic book is my staple. It's the first product I suggest to my clients who want to invest in a beautiful way to display all the images from their session. And honestly, I could run my hands over that book all day long; I can't get enough of how it feels! An album is a tactile experience, and I think my NeoClassic AsukaBook gives my clients the very best experience possible.

Any selling tips for other photographers?
AsukaBook products are easy to "sell" to my clients, because honestly, they sell themselves. My clients take one look and realize this isn't something they can create themselves through a cheap online photo book site; it's on another level entirely. The best sales advice I can give other photographers is to know everything you can about the products you offer, and point out the little details that clients may not notice at first. For example, the total lack of a gutter in the NeoClassic album. It's your responsibility to give your clients all the information they need to make a decision - and I've found that these features help them fall in love with their future album even more!

What else should people know about you?
My favorite session was probably when I was invited out on my clients' private deep-sea fishing boat, along with their three labradors. Just after sunrise, we cruised out of the harbor and two pods of dolphins swam up to say hello! They were on all sides of the boat, happily swimming around, so of course I was shooting away...and then *splash*! One of the labradors jumped in the water! I guess he wanted to meet the dolphins for himself! Don't worry, we pulled him back in the boat immediately and then had a good laugh, of course! My business is all about the happy, beautiful moments that my clients share with their pets that they never want to forget, so that session sticks out to me as an unexpected but hilarious memory!
